Statement of the Supreme Spiritual Council on the Draft Amendments to Law on RA Holidays and Memorial Days

Statement of the Supreme Spiritual Council on the Draft Amendments to Law on RA Holidays and Memorial Days 13.11.2021

From 08 to 13 of November, during the meeting of the Supreme Spiritual Council convened in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, with the participation of the Diocesan Primates; a reference was made to the discussion of the National Assembly related to the draft of the amendments to the Law on RA Holidays and Memorial Days; and the proposal of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin to keep January 05 and 07 as non-working days.

It was noted, that the proposal of the Mother See related to the mentioned legislative amendments had not been considered, and no discussion had been held with the Armenian Church.

In the context of national, spiritual, state interests, no reasonable explanation had been provided for rejecting the proposal of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin and removing the mentioned days from the list of non-working days.

The SSC members expressed hope that the proposal would be positively reflected in the Parliament; and at the Candlelight Divine Liturgy and on the Day of Remembrance, with the sacrament of the Day,  our faithful people will be able to freely direct their steps to the churches to cense and pray for the immortal memory of their beloved.
